A room is more than a weekly rent figure. Think about the journey home after an evening class, whether you want housemates and how much setup you can manage in your first month.
Compare the options
Student residences can simplify the move, while a share house gives you a different kind of home life. Short-term accommodation can buy time to inspect longer-term places. Ask your institution’s housing team where to begin and whether there are application deadlines.
Make a useful shortlist
For each place, note the full cost, commute, furniture, included bills and agreement length. Add one personal priority: a quiet study space, a shorter walk to transport or a household routine that suits your timetable. Check those details in writing with the provider.
Before paying
Verify the listing and who is offering it. Read the agreement and arrange an inspection where possible. If a payment request feels rushed or the arrangement is unclear, ask your student housing team or local tenant service for help first.
Keep a folder for advertisements, messages, receipts and the agreement. Read our room inspection guide before visiting properties.
